ST’s MasterGaN4 power package integrates two symmetrical 225mΩ RDS(on), 650V gallium nitride (GaN) power transistors, as well as optimized gate drivers and circuit protection functions which simplify high-efficiency power conversion up to 200W application. MasterGaN4 is now in production, using a 9mm x 9mm x 1mm GQFN package with a creepage distance of more than 2mm to ensure safe use in high-voltage applications. Relying on the advantages of GaN technology and STMicroelectronics integrated products. Compared to ordinary silicon-based solutions, new chargers and adapters products have reduced size by 80% and weight by 70%. Create the era of smaller and faster charger power supplies.

MasterGaN4 solves complex gate control and circuit layout problems. Simplify the application design of wide-bandgap GaN power semiconductors. The allowable input voltage of MasterGaN4 is 3.3V-15V. It can be directly connected to the controller. For example, Hall-effect sensors or microcontrollers, DSP processors, FPGA programmable devices and other CMOS chips.

Applications:

  • Excellent performance of GaN transistor switches. The higher operating frequency, higher energy efficiency and less heat dissipation. Designers can choose smaller magnetic components and heat sinks to design smaller and lighter power supplies, chargers and adapters.
  • MasterGaN4 is suitable for symmetrical half-bridge topologies and soft switching topologies, such as active clamp flyback and active clamp forward converters.
  • The wide supply voltage of 75V-9.5V facilitates the connection of MasterGaN4 to the existing power rail. Built-in protection features include gate driver interlock, high- and low-side undervoltage lockout (UVLO), and overheat protection, which can further simplify application design. There is also a dedicated shutdown pin.
  • Ultra-fast and wireless chargers for smartphones. USB-PD compact adapters for PCs and game consoles. Industrial applications such as solar power storage systems, uninterrupted power supply systems or high-end OLED TVs and cloud servers.
